We aim to keep you up to date with on going regulations and legislation, one of the most topical being the WEEE directive. (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment). The primary purpose of WEEE is to prevent waste of resources, through recovery, recycling and reuse. The levy to cover the costs of this recycling process was supposed to commence in January 2006, but this has now been deferred to June of next year. You may also have noticed that all production from the beginning of August has included the "Crossed out Wheelie Bin" symbol as part of the Product Type Label. The use of this symbol means that the product should be recycled at the end of life. We can also confirm that Fitzgerald Lighting is registered with appropriate bodies, and will fully comply with the requirements laid down. The European Ballast Directive takes effect from the 21st November 2005. The actual detail requires the Ballast Manufacturers to place more efficient ballasts onto the European market, and by implication the Luminaire Manufacturer, Wholesaler and Contractor should follow as stocks are used up. The idea is to save Energy, so do consider High Frequency lighting as an alternative. Please be assured that we will also be in compliance with this directive. |

Lady Lever in the Spotlight Set in the attractive garden village of Port Sunlight, the Lady Lever Art Gallery holds one of the most beautiful collections of fine and decorative arts in the country. During the refurbishment of three of the internal galleries, Brian Gaskell, the Electrical Maintenance Officer for the National Galleries, Liverpool required a truly innovative lighting scheme to cope with the sensitive demands created by this environment. The solution was supplied by Martyn Whittaker from the Fitzgerald Lighting Group, and included a combination of batten luminaries, Occhio Tracklights and a wire free lighting control system from the Exodus product range. The batten fittings were installed behind prismatic diffuser sheets, creating a skylight effect, whilst the main body of the room utilized the Occhio spotlights installed on a three circuit track. Every luminaire is supplied with digital dimming, allowing the curators to adjust light levels as and when the displays are changed, creating a flexible, efficient solution to lighting these national treasures. |

Fitzgerald's in Top Gear The Cotswold BMW group have recently completed their newest dealership, Cotswold Gloucester, a £5m exciting new development featuring state of the art buildings which represent the cutting edge of modern technology and design. A sophisticated lighting scheme was required for this location, and due to previous success at the Hereford branch, Fitzgerald Lighting were chosen to supply lighting for the entire site. The lighting scheme includes a bespoke continuous run feature, using the Fitzgerald Quasar range. The Quasar is a super slim luminaire, with a profile of just 56mm, and is designed to use the latest T5 lamp technology. Die cast aluminium end caps give this surface mounted luminaire a quality finish, chamfering its profile smoothly to the mounting surface. Also featured on site are Fitzgerald's Orion Top Hat amenity fittings. These stylish, post top luminaries have a clear, UV stabilized lens with corrosive resistant canopy and base sections finished in black, and are available with a range of lamp options. The lighting scheme was designed by Fitzgerald Lighting Engineer Colin Tilley and the luminaries were supplied via A & B Electrical. |

Lotus brings Enlightenment! - Available Winter 2005 The Lotus is one of the latest surface mounted luminaires from Fitzgerald Lighting. Lotus comprises of a "winged" profile that blends to the ceiling surface. The combination of a reflector profile and perforated basket optic creates a subtle direct/indirect lighting effect, so is ideal for use in commercial interiors where reduced luminance contrast is required i.e applications where VDT's are in use. The Lotus is constructed from mild steel and finished with the Fitzgerald patent Pearl Rezi Tex coating. Available with perforated basket optic or with double parabolic louver insert, the Lotus is supplied with high frequency control gear and high efficiency triphosphor lamps as standard. |

Municipal - Available Winter 2005 The new Municipal range has been redesigned to meet the stringent requirements of educational establishments and healthcare applications. This luminaire features a low profile body and diffuser and is fitted as standard with high frequency ballast for improved energy efficiency, flicker free installation and instant start. Ideal for circulation areas in hospitals, colleges and other similar institutions the Municipal is supplied with a wipe clean smooth diffuser, removable gear tray and screw fixed polycarbonate endcaps, to ensure protection from unauthorised tampering. The Municipal is available with LED or 7W PL nightlight variations and a corner mounting kit option. With energy efficiency and user comfort in mind, the Municipal can be operated using an occupancy sensor, which switches on automatically when occupancy is detected and the ambient light-level is below a threshold level, and off again when no further occupancy is detected. The Occupancy Sensor comprises of a microwave sensor and photo-cell which has a number of unique advantages over passive infra-red sensors. These include; improved mounting position of the sensor (can be mounted behind the diffuser therefore not compromising the luminaire appearance), a larger detection zone, and a wider detection area allows wiring for two way master / slave operation, e.g. as in a corridor application. |
